Math Midway

Pedal on the Petals
Glide around a brightly colored sunflower track while pedaling a square-wheeled tricycle.

Using playful exhibits, bright colors, and a carnival theme, Math Midway encourages direct physical investigation of the surprising breadth and variety of mathematics. Visitors can learn about and test theories like probability and symmetry through carnival-style games and hands-on activities.

More than 20 hands-on exhibits allow visitors to explore the world of pattern, shape and numbers. Visitors can take a surprisingly smooth ride on a square-wheeled tricycle, create one-of-a-kind drawings using the mechanical harmonograph, compose a tune with the organ function grinder or attempt to solve one of the tricky math puzzles!

Math Midway is open February 6 – April 18 and is free with general NYSCI admission.
