New York Hall of Science Elects New Trustees to the Board

Queens, N.Y. – On September 23, the New York Hall of Science elected two new members to its Board of Trustees, effective immediately. The Board of Trustees is the policy-making body of NYSCI and has ultimate authority for the governance and management of its direction and finances.
New board members include:
James E. Whaley is the vice president of communications and marketing for Siemens Corporation. He is responsible for developing and overseeing the communications strategy for Siemens in the U.S., the global company’s largest market. He also leads the teams working on the company’s branding, advertising and marketing efforts, including The Answers Campaign
Jim joined Siemens in 2004 as vice president of the Siemens Foundation. He became president of the Siemens Foundation in June 2006 and continues to serve in that position. Under Mr. Whaley’s tenure as vice president, the Foundation expanded its Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement program to all fifty states, recognizing students, teachers and schools for exceptional achievement in AP math and science courses nationally. Jim was promoted to vice president of communications and marketing for Siemens Corporation in March 2009.
Kurt D. Woetzel is chief information officer and head of Bank Operations for The Bank of New York Mellon. As CIO, he is responsible for the company’s Information Technology (IT) organization worldwide, including the technical infrastructure, software development and business processes of the company. As head of Bank Operations, Mr. Woetzel is responsible for the company’s banking operations and for its business continuity planning worldwide. Mr. Woetzel is also the company’s chief innovation officer. In this role, he directs company resources and establishes processes in support of accelerating new product development and innovation across global markets.
Mr. Woetzel joined The Bank of New York in 1985 in the Broker Dealer Services business line, and in 1990 he became head of that division. In 1995, Mr. Woetzel headed up the Securities Processing Systems Division. Mr. Woetzel became head of the company’s software development process in 1998. He was named CIO in 2002 and head of bank operations in April 2009.
