New York Hall of Science Launches New Catapult Programming for Fall
9-21-09
Queens, N.Y. — It’s a bird, it’s a plane…it’s your Halloween pumpkin! Watch your pumpkin and more soar through the air from an 15-foot catapult! Catapult Month at the New York Hall of Science kicks off on October 3.
Catapult Month focuses on the ancient, powerful machines that can throw objects small and large with incredible accuracy. Visitors can stop by for a weekend demo of NYSCI’s hefty catapult, design digital catapults or bring their own Halloween pumpkin to get lobbed across a field.
Each weekend from October 3 to November 1 at 1 pm, the outdoor catapult will toss water balloons. An expert will explain the science and history behind the catapult at this one-of-a-kind demonstration.
On October 14, 15, 17, 18, 31 and November 1 from 11 am – 1 pm, get hands-on with the Catapult Family Workshop. Inspect NYSCI’s outdoor catapult up close and personal and build a tabletop catapult with the family.
End catapult month with a bang! NYSCI offers plenty more opportunities to get involved for catapult enthusiasts of all ages:
