October is Catapult Month!

See our large catapult “Chuck” in action! Learn about the history and science behind these projectile launching machines and then watch it hurl things hundreds of feet. Come for weekend demos, sign up for a family workshop, experiment with a digital catapult, or bring your Halloween pumpkin to get tossed.

Catapult Month Activities Include:

Catapult Demonstration
October 2 – 31; Weekends; 1 pm & 3 pm
See NYSCI’s 19-foot outdoor catapult in action! Learn about the history and science and then watch it hurl things across a field. Free, all ages

Pumpkin Chucking
October 30 & 31; noon to 4 pm
Bring your Halloween pumpkin to NYSCI and watch it splat! We’ll be chucking your basketball-sized pumpkins all afternoon. Free, all ages

Digital Catapults
October 23; 11 am – 4 pm
Visit our JP Morgan Connections Lab and test your ability to design catapults to hit a target! Using the game Crayon Physics participants will get a chance to draw and test solutions to catapult puzzles on an interactive whiteboard designed by NYSCI staff. Free, ages 6 and older

Catapult Family Workshop
October 3, 9, 17 and 23; 11 am – 1 pm
Families build a table-top catapult together. Learn more about the science behind these powerful machines with hands-on activities; build and test out your own catapult; and see NYSCI’s 19-foot outdoor catapult up close and personal!
Ages 8 and up; $25 ($15 Members) per child and adult pair; includes one catapult. $10 for each additional child and catapult.
