National Chemistry Day

October 23, 11 am – 4 pm

This year's theme is Behind the Scenes with Chemistry! Chemistry is everywhere, whether prominent as a science fair project or tucked behind the scenes of a movie set or book. Visitors of all ages will be able to participate in a range of hands-on projects. Activities are free with general admission and take place from 11 am – 4 pm, unless otherwise noted. National Chemistry Day activities* include:

  • The Science of Making Gatorade – Pick the flavor and color combination of your Gatorade creation and give it a name. Then PepsiCo scientists will manufacture your Gatorade.
  • Chemistry Bingo – Use your knowledge of the periodic table to play this unique version of bingo. 1 & 3 pm
  • Making Flubber – Make a gooey substance.
  • Polystyrene Shrinkers – Make your own shrinky dinks.
  • Artificial Snow – Make a substance that looks like snow.
  • Meet Mr. Met – Meet and take your photo with New York Mets' mascot Mr. Met. 11 am – 1 pm
  • Plus, Fizzy Potions, the Atomic Trampoline, Elephant Toothpaste, Lava in a Cup, and more!

NYSCI's National Chemistry Day is part of National Chemistry Week, a community-based annual event that unites American Chemical Society local sections, businesses, schools, and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry to our quality of life.
